Gygan Reign

Some info about the project

A 2-4 player casual RTS style game using a unique free form path drawing mechanic alongside wave based auto-spawning to create easy basics and complex advanced strategies.

  • Role: Lead Game Designer (map design, character design, unit balancing)
  • Period: August 2015 - June 2016
  • Platform: PC and Mac
  • Genre: Casual RTS
  • Concept:Use path drawing and automated repetition to allow casual players access to the rewarding moments commonly found in RTS games.
  • How to play:Using gradually increasing reasources, build towers to defend your base and build units. Units spawn every wave for both players and fight across the map wherever their paths cross. Players can edit these paths to effect future waves of units by simply clicking and dragging
  • Post Mortem:
    • What went right
      • - The goal was reached! : Casual players can play this game and pick up RTS skills through playing it, Casual players can beat Experienced players though it is less likely.
      • - We presented at GDC 2015
      • - The game reflected the huge amount of work we all put into it.
    • What went wrong
      • - The music doesn't really match the game
      • - The Gygans (large base creatures) never move/fight
      • - The Map Editor takes forever to use and it's almost impossible for players to effectively generate content.
